Q1: What is Give BIG Green Bay?
A: Give BIG Green Bay is a 24-hour online giving event designed to transform the way our community thinks about and contributes to Brown County charities. This simple online giving platform, giveBIGgreenbay.org, makes it easy to learn more about the work of participating nonprofits and to donate, at any level.
The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation has partnered with the Green Bay Packers Foundation to create Give BIG Green Bay. We hope to create a swell of excitement around the good work agencies do for our community and to provide a new channel for donor support.
Q2: When does Give BIG Green Bay take place?
A: Give BIG Green Bay is a 24-hour online event beginning at noon on Tuesday, February 27 and ending at noon on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
Q3: How were the participating nonprofits selected?
A: All nonprofit organizations who met the following requirements were eligible to apply to participate:
- A 501(c)(3) organization or a governmental entity.
- Primarily serve Brown County residents.
- Conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, etc.
- Provide direct support to clients.
During our inaugural year, we are pleased to present a diverse cross-section of 31 nonprofit agencies that serve Brown County residents in terms of field of interest, size and communities served. Research gathered from other giving day programs around the country clearly demonstrates that it is important to limit the number of participating organizations in year-one in order to build a successful and sustainable giving day program.
Q4: How do I search for nonprofits?
A: You can search for nonprofit agencies on the home page of giveBIGgreenbay.org. Simply begin typing the name of the nonprofit in the “organization name” field and a selection of similarly spelled nonprofit organizations will appear. Click on your selected nonprofit and it will populate the organization name field.
If you would prefer to search by category of nonprofits, scroll to the bottom of the page. On the right side you will see a list of categories. Click on the category of your choice and a list of nonprofits will appear. Select a nonprofit to learn more about the organization and to make a donation.
Q5: How do I make a donation?
A: There are two ways you can make donations on the website. If you would like to contribute to more than one organization, please enter the first organization’s name. You can then add multiple organizations by clicking the green 'add gift' button. Once you have added all of the organizations and indicated the amount you would like to donate, just fill out your information and submit your donations.
If you would like to donate to one organization, you can search the “leaderboard’ page and click on the individual organization. Once you are on their page, just fill out your information and submit your donation.
*Please note: the minimum donation for each nonprofit is $10.00. You can donate with VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express.
Q6: Is there a donation deadline?
A: Donations through Give BIG Green Bay begin at noon on Tuesday, February 27 and end at noon on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. All on-line donations made during this timeframe qualify for matching funds. If you miss the Give BIG Green Bay event, we encourage you to donate directly to the nonprofit of your choice. It’s important that we continue to support nonprofits year ‘round to build a thriving and healthy community.
Q7: Will there be a match on my donation?
A: The Green Bay Packers Foundation provided a $250,000 grant to build and launch Give Big Green Bay while creating a matching pool of funds. In our inaugural year the matching funds are expected be at least $215,000 and will increase the value of every donation made. Once an organization raises $1,000 they are guaranteed at least $1,000 in matching funds.
At the completion of Give BIG Green Bay, the Community Foundation will determine each nonprofit’s proportionate share of the matching funds by dividing the total amount each charity raised by the total amount raised by all participating nonprofits. This amount will then be multiplied by the total amount of matching funds.
For example, if a nonprofit receives 10% of the total amount of money raised in the 24-hour period, that same organization will receive 10% of the available matching funds. The match will be calculated after transaction fees are deducted from each donation.
The total matching dollar amount will be determined once the administrative costs to launch the program are assessed against the grant from the Green Bay Packers Foundation. Both foundations reserve the right to cap a single organization’s available matching funds should the result materially outweigh those of other organizations.
Q8: Will there be the transaction fees on donations made through Give BIG Green Bay?
A: The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation does not retain any fees related to Give BIG Green Bay. However, a 6% transaction fee (credit card fees plus third party online platform fees) will be assessed on each donation. Donors are given the option (by checking a box on the donation page) to cover this fee or to have the fee reduce the amount of the donation. All matching funds will be calculated based on the total donation less third party fees. Please see the chart below:

Q9: Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes. All donations made to the 501(c)(3) nonprofits through Give BIG Green Bay are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law. After making a donation, you will automatically receive an on-screen acknowledgement of your contribution. If you’ve donated to multiple nonprofits in one transaction, you will receive one receipt reflecting the total donated.
If you would like an additional receipt, simply enter your email address in the “Need a Receipt” box on the bottom right of the home page.
Q10: Why does my credit card receipt reference the Community Foundation rather than the organization to which I donated?
A: The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation provides the administrative resources and online giving platform for Give BIG Green Bay. Additionally, the Community Foundation collects all donations, calculates the matching funds and distributes the funds (less third party administrative fees) to each nonprofit organization. The Community Foundation does not retain any fees or benefit financially from this giving day event.
Unless you select the box indicating your desire to remain anonymous, your contact information and the amount contributed, will be provided only to the organization for which you contributed. You may receive a separate and unique acknowledgment from the organization following the giving day event.
